A Definitive Ranking of the 8 Possible Royal Baby Names
NOW THAT THE Royal Baby has been born, atention has turned to what she shall be called. Ladbrokes’ showed up outside the Lindo Wing this morning to present the bookies’ favourites and we have, in turn, assessed the qualities of each one.
Here is our definitive ranking of the possible Royal Baby names:
8. Frances

Ostensibly one of the favourites as it was Princess Diana’s middle name, Frances is unacceptable as far as we’re concerned.
Not only would the child run the risk of being called Fran or Franny for short, but Princess Frances has too many ‘s’ sounds to make it a viable option.

Odds: 25/1
7. Alexandra
Dominic Lipinski Dominic Lipinski
A pretty name, but also kind of generic. As in, at least 27 women would turn around if you shouted out, “Alexandra!” at a Royal Family reunion.
They can do better.
Odds: 14/1
6. Diana

Diana is one of the leading contenders and it is expected that the couple will honour his late mother in some small way. But naming a tiny baby “Princess Diana” almost seems unfair. After all, Diana was an icon and those are some very large shoes to fill.
It’s a no.

5. Grace

Again, a lovely name, but arguably the only thing more cruel than naming a baby Princess Diana is literally naming it Princess Grace.
It’s too much!!!
Odds: 25/1
4. Elizabeth
John Giles John Giles
A lazy option.
Naming the baby Elizabeth would ensure that we could have a Queen Elizabeth III on our hands, but isn’t that a bit dull? On the plus side, Elizabeth is a very versatile name with endless nickname possibilities — Liz, Liza, Lizzy, Beth, Eliza, etc.
3. Victoria
Only a select few can pull off the name Victoria – Queen Victoria, Victoria Beckham and, er, that’s about it. But it’s a strong name and, hey, at least there’s already a train station named after her.
Only downside: headlines featuring Victoria’s Secret puns are inevitable, which is not very royal at all.

2. Charlotte
David Jones David Jones
The second favourite and with good reason.
Charlotte is a name that was made for princesses. Remember Charlotte in Sex and the City? Case closed.
It should be noted, however, that there are literally so many Princess Charlottes that it has its own category on Wikipedia.
Just something to bear in mind, Kate and William!
Odds: 3/1
1. Alice
Ian West Ian West
Our favourite of the lot.
It’s simple, sweet and understated, whilst still having a bit of a history within the Royal Family. (Queen Victoria’s second daughter was named Alice.)
Odds: 5/4
Honourable mention…
